Deputy Prime Minister hails success for SPP Pumps as company is recognised as Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer

  • 01-Dec-2013

SPP Pumps has been recognised in the prestigious Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list, as announced at the recent National Apprenticeship Awards.

The list is compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service, in partnership with City & Guilds. It recognises excellence in businesses that employ apprentices, and aims to inspire people with exciting opportunities in further education, skills and apprenticeships.

After a tough selection process the most exceptional Apprenticeship employers from all five National Apprenticeship Awards employer categories went forward to feature in the list, which showcases the breadth of employers who now offer Apprenticeships.

SPP Pumps is a leading manufacturer of centrifugal pumps and systems whose Apprenticeship Scheme forms an important part of its business. This recognition is testament to its commitment to training, developing and motivating apprentices, many of whom go on to take on full-time positions within the business.

Gary Hurcombe, Site Services Manager for SPP, comments: “SPP is committed to providing quality solutions to customers where it really matters. Our Apprenticeship Scheme is an important part of this - we pick high calibre candidates, train them in all areas of our business and they become very much a part of our team. By developing their expertise we can then offer the best support to our customers, and we are delighted to receive this recognition.”

SPP’s Apprenticeship Scheme is about developing partnerships with individuals and organisations within the community, sharing best practice and working to make a difference to people and business.

Writing to SPP, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, said:

“I would like to take this chance to congratulate you on your success at this year’s National Apprenticeship Awards. Apprenticeships are at the heart of our drive for a stronger economy: equipping people of all ages with the skills employers need to help their businesses prosper and compete in a global market.

“As we work to increase the opportunities for hard-working young people to achieve their ambitions through high-quality apprenticeship training, it is vitally important that we celebrate the achievements of employers like you, who go the extra mile to help their apprentices succeed.”

Karen Woodward, Interim Director of Apprenticeships at the National Apprenticeship Service, congratulated all the Top 100 on their success:

“The vast range of employers on our Top 100 list just goes to show the huge impact Apprenticeships have on companies of all sizes and the UK economy. Apprenticeships are a brilliant way for businesses to grow their own talent, and nurture a dedicated and loyal workforce. All of the businesses on this list have shown a real commitment to their apprentices, and are shining examples of how engaging with Apprenticeships can help your business to thrive.”

Meanwhile, CEO and Director General of City & Guilds, Chris Jones, said:

“Businesses of all types and across all industries need qualified, well-trained staff to boost productivity and future growth. Apprenticeships help employers develop the workforce of tomorrow, as well as giving people the skills they need to succeed in employment. To be named a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer is a real honour. The SPP team should feel incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved. I hope other employers will be inspired to follow in their footsteps and discover the benefits Apprenticeships can offer.”
